LL stars will shine in Petaluma

Stars will shine all over Petaluma this week as District 35 Little League All-Star tournament play begins.

Petaluma will host the first step in the long trail that could lead a local team to a Northern California or even a national championship. Petaluma American Little League will host both the 9-10 and 10-11-year-old South Area tournaments, while Petaluma Valley will host the Major League (11-12-year-olds) South Area Tournament.

9-10-Year-Olds

The 9-10-year-old tournament will be played at the Americans' Kenneally Field at Lucchesi Park beginning Friday evening when Petaluma National faces Rancho Cotati.

The first round continues Saturday morning with Westside from Santa Rosa meeting Petaluma Valley at 11. Sebastopol and Petaluma American have first-round byes. Sebastopol will meet the winner of the Petaluma National-Rancho Cotati game at 2 p.m. Saturday, while the Americans meet the winner of the Westside-Petaluma Valley game at 11 o'clock Sunday morning.

The tournament continues through Saturday, July 8, with the championship game at 11 a.m. A second title game, if necessary, will be played at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 9.

The winner advances to the District final, also to be hosted by the Petaluma American League.

10-11-year-olds

The 10-11-year-old South Area Tournament will also be hosted by the Petaluma American Little League, with games to be played at Lucchesi Park, starting with Sebastopol against Rincon Valley at 11 a.m. Saturday.

In other first-round games, Mark West Youth Club will play Petaluma Valley at 2 p.m. Saturday, Westside meets Rancho Cotati at 11 a.m. Sunday and Petaluma National takes on Santa Rosa American at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Petaluma American receives a first-round bye and will meet the winner of the Sebastopol-Rincon Valley game at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The tournament continues through Thursday, July 13, with the championship game at 5:30 p.m. A follow-up game, if necessary, will be played, Friday, July 14 at 5:30 p.m.

The winner advances to the District Final, also to be hosted by Petaluma American.
