Leghorn Legion team off to a hard-hitting start

June 14, 2006

Petaluma's Leghorn American Legion team has its season off to a hard-hitting start. The Leghorns rapped 20 hits in their first two games, but the big offensive show was good only for a split of games against the Fairfield Expos and Napa.

The Expos rallied for two runs in the last of the ninth inning to defeat the Leghorns, 7-6, despite 11 hits by the Petalumans.

D.J. Gentile led the Petaluma attack with two hits, including a home run. P.J. Sequeira had three hits and drove in a run, while Chris Jensen had two hits and Josh Krist drove home two runs.

The Leghorns came back with nine hits against Napa, pushing home the winning run in the top of the ninth inning for a 5-4 victory.

Krist was the main man in that game with a homer and a double and three RBIs. Sequeira had two hits and M.J. Enochs singled, doubled and tripled.

Jensen earned the pitching win with two innings of scoreless relief work, allowing no hits and one walk, while striking out two.

On the Leghorn roster are current players or recent graduates of Petaluma, Casa Grande, St. Vincent and Rancho Cotate high schools. The team includes from Petaluma John Cilley, Brandon Delon, Enochs, Chadd Krist, Josh Krist, James Perez, Andrew Ross, Sequeira and Ryan Talesfore; from Casa Grande Nick Frazer, Gentile, Jensen, Jeremy Jucutan, Eric LeBaron, Nick Marshall and Dan Thompson; from St. Vincent Kevin Markovich; and from Rancho Cotate Trevor Mollison.
