Fire calls
June 28, 2006
The Petaluma Fire Department received 63 medical calls and 46 fire or other emergency calls from June 19 to 25. These are some of the incidents the department responded to. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21 10:22 a.m. -- Two men were injured in a collision involving a pickup truck and sedan on Lakeville Highway. Both vehicles sustained major damage, and the solo drivers were still inside their vehicles when firefighter-paramedics arrived. The driver of the pickup was removed, treated and taken by REACH helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. The driver of the sedan was removed, treated and transported by ambulance to SRMH. 11 p.m. -- A Porta-Potty caught fire on Maria Drive between the backstop of a baseball diamond and a creek. The heat from the fire started to melt a nearby Porta-Potty and coin box. Firefighters used 250 gallons of tank water as they controlled the fire in nine minutes. The cause of the fire is undetermined, but a passerby reported to the Petaluma Police Department that he saw some people fleeing the area on foot and/or bikes, and noticed a car drive by several times before, during and after the blaze.
FRIDAY, JUNE 23 10:29 p.m. -- A Mercedes and pickup truck suffered mild damage when they collided on Rainier Circle at Rosamond Street. The driver of the Mercedes, who was injured, was treated and then transported to Petaluma Valley Hospital. The driver of the pickup was not injured, and did not require medical treatment. 11:23 p.m. -- A vehicle rolled over and off the roadway at Lakeville Highway at Old Lakeville Road No. 2. A woman was removed from the vehicle, treated and then taken to SRMH.
SATURDAY, JUNE 25 10:38 p.m. -- All Petaluma fire crews and mutual-aid units attempted to put out a large fire at Rex Hardware Store at 313 B St. The fire was contained to one building, and was controlled after three hours. The building sustained total damage, with structural losses estimated at $500,000 and contents losses estimated at $500,000. The fire is under investigation. No one was injured.
