Photographs by local teens on display

An exhibit of photographs by local teens is on display at the Petaluma Community Center, 320 N. McDowell Blvd., June 14-19.

Organized by the Petaluma Youth Commission, the photographs were taken by teens from all over Petaluma.

The exhibit will move to the Sonoma-Marin Fair June 21-25.

Memoir workshop with Susan Bono

The Writers Forum, a new monthly series of workshops, explores various aspects of writing, covering topics such as novel writing, setting the scene, characters, plot, fiction and non-fiction.

This month's presenter, local writer and editor Susan Bono, takes the class on a "Journey into Memoir."

The forum meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 15 at the Community Center, 320 N. McDowell Blvd. Cost is $10.

Participants should take notebooks to take part in this hands-on class.

Dance in the summer solstice

Iris Stewart, local author of "Sacred Women, Sacred Dance," hosts a summer solstice celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at Oak Hill Park. Part of the celebration includes walking the park's labyrinth.

The afternoon includes traditional circle dances from Greece, Bulgaria, Armenia, Turkey, Macedonia and Albania.

Participants should take a blanket and a contribution for the potluck meal. Call Stewart, 765-6508, for details.

On the 'Munny' at Boomerang

Explore what 50 artists, community members and kids created with Kidrobots vinyl figures at "The Munny Show," opening June 17 and running through July 12. Saturday's reception for the artists is from 6 to 9 p.m.

Learn about native basketry

Join anthropologist Ralph Shanks at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17 for a presentation on the art, culture and history of "Indian Baskets of Central California."

The event is free, and take place in the Community Room of the Petaluma Library, 100 Fairgrounds Drive.

Flamenco! Ole! with La Fibi

Enjoy an evening of Spanish flamenco -- the fiery, passion-ate dance of Spain's Andalusian gypsies -- Sunday, as La Fibi Flamenco presents a flamenco show and student recital, featuring 20 dancers, five guitar-ists and singer Jaime Del Rio.

The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center, 320 N. McDowell Blvd. Cost is $20; $10 for seniors, students and children. Call 762-5201 for more information.

Alaska's 'Piano Man' comes to town

Traveling storyteller and songwriter Dave Manning comes to Sonoma County this week, performing at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, in Cotati's Tradewinds Bar, 8210 Old Redwood Highway, and from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 15 and 16 at Papas Taverna, 5688 Lakeville Highway.

Manning, previously a documentary videographer, has been likened to Tom Waits, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Guy Clark and Arlo Guthrie, with a piano style that varies from ballads to blues, country to boogie-woogie.
