It's the end of a long workday, but it's your job to get to the supermarket to pick up something to fix for dinner. And even if you are in a hurry, you still like to buy locally produced foods, if possible. Where do you go and what do you buy?
The Argus-Courier set about to find the answer. We contacted both markets and food producers, and conducted research online, over the phone and in person to find, to the best of our knowledge, which Petaluma supermarkets carried which Petaluma foods.
To be sure, there are many farms, wineries, specialties stores, restaurants, cafes and bakeries in Petaluma where great food can be bought directly, and some great food producers just up the street. But for the purposes of this story, we were simply trying to determine which foods and beverages were either grown in Petaluma, processed in Petaluma, sold by companies with their offices in Petaluma, or had Petaluma on their labels.
Our sincerest apologies to the many great farmers or food producers just up the road, or who don't happen to sell through supermarkets. We know you're fantastic; you just didn't fit into the specifics of this article.
So here's the list. Eat up, Petaluma.
